Technology Updates for all ECOT Students and Parents:

Overview:

Occasionally, students are required to download and install new software in order to update their computers.

You may have been directed by the Help Desk or a Teacher or some document to come to this page to do that.

When you click on any of the links below, you will find instructions for completing the installation. You may want to print these out so you can follow them as you go along.

After you have completed loading the computer updates below, please continue to the "Curriculum" section for important curriculum updates.

ALL students using ECOT-Supplied PCs are REQUIRED to comply with each one of the steps in this column :

Step 1 - RAS (VPN) Dialer
Whether you are using Roadrunner or another Cable Broadband connection [ECOT PCs do not support DSL] or a Dialup Modem with your ECOT-supplied PC, please click here to download and install our new high-security connection. This should overcome some of the access problems which are cropping up across the Internet for ECOT users, due to the recent increased virus activity, and the Internet's reaction to that.

Note: This is now required for all ECOT PC's.

ALL students using Home PCs are REQUIRED to comply with each one of the steps in this column :

Step 1 - Virus Maintenance
ECOT requires that all Home PC users have installed an AntiVirus software package, and keep it updated at all times. Although the structure of the ECOT PCs should prevent viruses from propagating through the ECOT system, we have no such control over what may or may not be found on home PCs.

Curriculum Updates for all ECOT Students and Parents:

The curriculum ECOT sometimes requires that our users download and install some new software in order to access it.

Not all students with require all of the updates below. Install the updates below if you have been directed to come to this page to do so.

When you click on one of the links below, you will find instructions for completing the installation. You may want to print these out so you can follow them as you go along.

PLEASE NOTE:
These are large programs, and the download from the server to your computer will take time. Please allow it to complete.

Similarly, after the download, the installation will take a while - DO NOT interrupt the installation - but let it finish. Stopping the installation will require you to start all over again from the beginning.

Students may need the following updates in order to access our new curriculum:

For students using ECOT-Supplied PCs :

Step 1 - Upgrading INTERNET EXPLORER (All users):
Our new curriculum requires the use of Internet Explorer Version 6, ServicePak1, 128-bit encryption. Older versions of Internet Explorer will cause unexpected results, or a total lack of response.

If your computer does not currently have the above version, please click here for installation instructions.

Step 2 - Quick Time Proxy Fix:
If you are having problems with QuickTime asking for a username and password, please click here and when prompted to "open or save", choose "open".

Step 3 - Virus Fix
After completing one of the two choices above for the previous step, all users please click here to download a tool that can remove the most recent viruses from your computer. This is REQUIRED for all users of the ECOT system.

For students using their Home PCs :

Lexmark Half-Page Print Fix

If you are having problems with your Lexmark 1270 printer only printing half pages please click on the link below and when prompted to open or save, choose save and select the desktop. After it is saved on the desktop, double click the icon to run. If the first fix does not work, please use the second.

Flash 10

To upgrade to the Flash 10 plugin for Internet Explorer please click on the link below and when prompted to open or save, choose save and select the desktop. After it is saved on the desktop, double click the icon to run. If you need to check what version of Flash you have currently installed, click HERE.

To install the Rosetta Stone Speech Components please click on the link below and when prompted to open or save, choose save and select the desktop. After it is saved on the desktop, double click the icon to run.

ECOT Root Certificate

Users on a home PC may install the ECOT Root Certificate to their computer in order to stop browser warnings when visiting ECOT encrypted pages. This will not affect security of a home PC in any way. Without this certificate your browser is warning you that ECOT sites are trying to communicate with you securely, and manually makes you acknowledge that you trust the site. When installed it lets your computer know that ECOT sites are authorized to pass traffic securely.

Right click the link below, and choose to save the file to your computer. If you are using Internet Explorer you will also have to change .htm portion of the file name to .cer in the file name box when it asks you where to save. Once it is downloaded double click on the file. In the window that comes up click Install Certificate, click next through the prompts, and click finish to complete the installation. You should receive a message that the import was successful.
